Blasting down Zombies is one of the most exciting things you can do in a video game. the idea has been around ever since the inception of video games, with Entombed first launching onto the Atari 2600 way back in 1982, and has worked its way into a variety of fast paced action and horror games ever since. Now that virtual reality is making a strong play in the gaming space itself, it only makes sense for developers to create games based on this idea.
So what are the best vr zombie games out there right now? Here are our picks.
If you’re into Zombie games, Arizona Sunshine is the VR title for you. Sporting excellent graphics and immersive landscapes, Arizona Sunshine brings you fast paced Zombie action that you won’t get anywhere else. There is also a co-op multiplayer mode available which allows you to play campaign or hoard mode in tandem with one another, even further expanding the fun you can have with this game. Our own John Velasco gave the title a solid 8/10, so it would definitely be worth a look if you’ve got the cash to drop. This game is available for both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, so you should be able to get your hands on it no matter which PC-based headset you own. Check it out.
Resident Evil 7: BioHazard
Though this game is currently only available on Playstation VR if you want to play it in virtual reality, many users have claimed it as the biggest reason to get Sony’s HMD. Resident Evil 7 is chock full of dark corridors and frightening monsters that are sure to scare the hell out of you, and has received extremely favorable reviews from users around the world. Though you can play the game on Playstation 4 and PC without a VR headset on, the game is almost screaming to be used on a virtual reality platform. If you own a Playstation VR headset and haven’t picked this up yet, it is an absolute must-have. Check out our review down below and let us know what you think in the comments below.
Into the Dead
Into the Dead drops players into a world on darkness overrun with zombies. This title is a wave clearing game, tasking you to wipe out as many oncoming dead as you possibly can. There are multiple game modes to play through, where you can use a variety of weapons like shotguns, dual pistols, and even a chainsaw. If you were looking for something to get your adrenaline pumping and burn some time, this game is for you. It is available on both Oculus Rift and Gear VR, so you can play it at home or on the go. Check it out.
The Brookhaven Experiment
The Brookhaven Experiment was one of the first horror games to be released on the HTC Vive, and it continues to be one off the best. There is a story as well as survival modes built into this title, which both use extremely dark surroundings and eerie sound effects to get your skin crawling. The game gives you a flashlight and a limited amount of bullets in order to fight off approaching zombies from all different directions, and it continues to scare the heck out of thousands of players to this day. The game is currently only available on the HTC Vive, but is updated pretty often so it is well worth the $20 it takes to get started. If you’ve been looking for a title you can use to scare your friends in virtual reality, this is a great choice.
Drop Dead was first developed for Gear VR, but has been ported to the Oculus Rift with updated graphics since its popularity skyrocketed. The title is meant to emulate an arcade-style action title, with various different types of Zombies for you to get out and shoot. The game even works with Oculus Touch, which should give you the ultimate arcade experience. With fantastic graphics and a fun, fast paced story, this game should appease all different types of players. There is multiplayer, co-op, and single player integrated into the title as well, so you can even play with your friends if you like. Be sure to give it a shot, but make sure you don’t get bitten first.
Price: $88/6 people
Ok, this isn’t exactly a game you can play at home, but it’s still one of the best VR zombie shooters around. Zero Latency throws you and some friends into the ultimate zombie survival center, with physical weapons to use and headsets that let you walk around quite a bit. This is much more of an attraction than a game, but man is it a good time. In what is essentially next generation laser tag, you and 5 friends can fight off a variety of zombie mutants while yelling to each other and trying to keep yourself from getting killed.
While $88 might seem pretty pricey for one session, splitting it 6 ways makes it much more affordable, and it’s a great way to get in on some interactive VR fun with you and your buddies. There is currently only one center located in Melbourne, Australia, but if you’re in the area, be sure to check it out!

25 games with real bite
Updated February 21, 2020: New entries addedWhether you're talking about films, TV shows, comics or video games, the zombie genre simply will not die. Even with a bullet to the brain.
We seem to be morbidly obsessed with shuffling crowds of the undead. And if we can jump in and actively smash some zombie skulls, or flee for our lives from said rabble, even better.
There are a whole bunch of zombie-themed games on the Google Play Store. And while we've referred to it as the zombie genre, there's really nothing of the sort. Rather, there are a whole bunch of different game genres that have received a zombie theme, from tower defence to first person shooters to RPGs.
All these games really share in common is that they feature the undead, and that they're really good fun.
If you're hankering for some undead bashing action on your Android device, check these games out.
Death Road to Canada
A sharp dungeon crawler with a neat zombie twist, Death Road to Canada has way more charm and brains than your average undead-blaster. Party management and tough decision making play a part in this compelling adventure.
Plants vs Zombies
Plants vs Zombies is one of the key games in the rise of the tower defence genre - although technically it's a lane defence game. Whatever, Plants vs Zombies remains an accessible yet tactical treat.
Organ Trail: Director's Cut
Organ Trail: Director's Cut is a survival horror adventure with a gleefully twisted sense of humour. Indeed, the whole thing exists as a grim parody of popular educational game The Oregon Trail.
Into the Dead 2
New Zombie Game 2017 Ps4
The sequel to PokPok's eery first person autorunner Into the Dead received a much more action-focused sequel. Despite the increased firepower, Into the Dead 2 remains a highly atmospheric zombie game.
Call of Duty Mobile (2019)
It's not inherently a zombie game, but Call of Duty: Mobile has its own zombie mode that's pretty darned popular. Fend off waves of undead attacks either solo or with up to three team mates.
The Walking Dead: The Game
Best Pc Zombie Games 2017
Telltale's Walking Dead games are all about making tough decisions that have brutally meaningful narrative consequences. In other words, a whole lot of 'major' characters get munched by zombies.
Dragon Hills 2
Dragon Hills 2 and its zombie-filled world is a physics-fuelled playground with a tactile swoop mechanic that harks back to the early days of smartphone gaming.
Dead Venture scores a cliche double whammy in being a zombie game with blocky Minecraft visuals. Somehow, though, it turns out to be a very fresh action game that has you running down zombies in a car.
Dead Island: Survivors
Rather than attempt to replicate the lavish first person action of the Dead Island console series, Survivors crafts a solid tower defence game with hack-and-slash action elements.
Kill Shot Virus
Kill Shot Virus is a vibrant, violent, and deliberately brainless zombie-themed first person shooter, with a variety of shooting gallery-like missions to run and gun through.
Mini Day Z
Here we have a simplified top-down take on one of the original zombie survival game big-hitters, Day Z. Mini Day Z is a lot more basic, of course, but it still offers a sprawling roguelike survival experience.
A neat twist on the runner genre that sees your American football player juking past hoards of the undead, utilising speed boosters and other environmental elements as you head for the end zone.
In casual strategy experience Infectonator, you are the zombie plague-bringer. It's your gruesome task to ravage cities with brain-munchers.
The Walking Dead: No Man's Land
A decent strategy game based on the most popular zombie TV show ever made. No Man's Land lets you build up your very own post-apocalyptic community, under the tutelage of Daryl himself.
Plants vs. Zombies Heroes
Plants vs Zombies Heroes bravely messes with the lane defence genre of the original, stirring in a little Clash Royale for taste. And it tastes good.
Zombicide: Tactics & Shotguns
It's not particularly involved or deep, but this boardgame conversion provides a healthy dose of light tactical RPG action featuring a bunch of brain-munching zombies.
AI Dungeon goes back to the text adventures of old, but employs AI to essentially make up an original adventure on the spot. And one of those themed adventures can be a rip-roaring zombie yarn.
Dead Trigger 2
Dead Trigger 2 is a relentless and technically impressive first person shooter with lots of bite-sized levels to tackle. You'll play it to test how good your new Android phone is - then struggle to put it down.
War of the Zombie
War of the Zombie could basically be described as X-COM with zombies, but with a more zoomed out top-down perspective.
Another game that understands how silly and darkly funny zombies can be, Zombie Catchers is an action-platformer that has you harpooning zombies and feeding them to unwitting punters.
Guns 'n' Glory Zombies
The popular Guns'n'Glory tower defence series gets an undead twist, as you take control of four gung-ho girls fighting back a zombie outbreak.
Best Zombie Games
Yet more first person zombie shooting from the Dead Trigger developer. Unkilled still has you legging it around small maps blasting the undead in first person. And that's fine by us.
Radiation City isn't the slickest or most intuitive zombie game around, but its brutal post-zombie-apocalypse world is way more immersive than most.
Plants vs Zombies 2: It's About Time
Its free-to-play structure means that Plants vs Zombies 2 isn't as good as the original. However, it's still one of the better zombie-themed strategy games on the Google Play Store.
Zombie Gunship Survival
Blasting zombies from the comfort of an AC-130 gunship sounds like a lot of fun - and it is. But Zombie Gunship Survival also stirs in base building elements for an extra edge.
